What’s the weather like in Normandy in June? Is this a good time to visit?

The weather is fine. On the coasts and near the cities popular with travellers, temperatures are mild. Further inland, to the south, it’s hot. Skies are clear for at least half the month, and winds are light. It’s the perfect time to take a walk in the lower Normandy mountains. You can also go for a swim, if the sea isn’t too cool for you.

The number of tourists is moderate, but increases with each passing month. The same goes for rates. This is the ideal time of year to visit the region, but it’s best to travel in early June.

1. Normandy in June – weather forecast

Normandy is known for its oceanic climate. This is especially true on the coasts, where most of the holidaymakers’ favorite towns are located. Temperatures are moderate in both winter and summer. Rainfall is frequent in all seasons, but varies according to local relief and year.

In June, it’s mild on the coast. We enjoy hiking without fear of the heat, which is rare. Above all, the skies are clear for more than half the month. By the sea, the water is cool – make sure you’re well equipped if you go swimming. Wind-wise, it’s one of the calmest months of the year.

Swimming is possible in June, but it’s best to bring a wetsuit. Discover the average sea temperature below:

6. Wind in Normandy in June

Ocean means wind. However, in June, Normandy is much less windy than the rest of the year. The coasts are as calm as the inland areas.

7. Crowds and other conditions

June is a busy month for tourists in Normandy. However, the summer vacation crowds have yet to arrive. It’s mid-season. You won’t have too much trouble finding a hotel or parking space, especially if you choose to leave at the beginning of the month. Beaches and hiking trails will also be clearer. Make the most of it!

8. June events in Normandy

  • The Rouen Armada

The Armada is ten days of festivities around the quays of the Seine. Dozens of sailboats and thousands of sailors from all over the world take to the river. There are also concerts, boat receptions and fireworks displays. There are 350,000 concert-goers, and six million visitors in all.

  • Rouen Cathedral of Light

Every summer until the end of September, light shows are projected onto the facades of Rouen Cathedral. The event takes place over many evenings and attracts hundreds of thousands of spectators.

  • D-Day Festival Normandy

Normandy celebrates the anniversary of the Allied landing on the Normandy beaches on June 6, 1944. From the end of May to mid-June, shows and cultural and festive events are on offer on the Normandy coast. Every five years, the festival takes on an international dimension, with the participation of Allied countries during the war. Each year, these festivities attract two million visitors.

  • Cabourg Romantic Film Festival

Each year, 12,000 spectators attend a five-day screening of romantic features and shorts.

  • Rock in Évreux

35,000 festival-goers come together over three days to enjoy a varied rock program featuring renowned international artists.

  • Art’zimutés Festival in Cherbourg

Between late June and early July, 10,000 spectators flock to the festival for a weekend of music.

  • Rush festival in Rouen

12,000 people take over various Rouen venues between late June and early July for three to six days of concerts.

  • Sea festivals

These traditional festivities take place mainly between June and September, in the various coastal towns of Normandy. They celebrate the sea and its products. The duration of the festivities varies from town to town. They can be found in many towns: Le Havre, Bricqueville-sur-Mer, Luc-sur-Mer, Yport, Saint-Valéry en Caux and many more.

  • Fête de la musique

As all over France, on June 21, music takes over Normandy. Numerous performances take place both indoors and outdoors.
