Rodríguez notches a brace, Evander and Mora score to earn three points at home

PORTLAND, Ore. – Overcoming a two-goal halftime deficit, the Portland Timbers stormed back to score four second-half goals and defeat the San Jose Earthquakes Wednesday night at Providence Park.

Jonathan Rodríguez scored a brace, Evander had a penalty kick goal and assist while Felipe Mora earned the game-winner with a penalty kick tally in the 90th minute as the Quakes finished the match with 10 men.

Comeback Results

Tonight’s comeback victory marked the Timbers’ second-ever win after trailing by a 2-0 deficit or more, and the first time since they earned a 3-2 result against Houston Dynamo FC on June 26, 2016. Portland is also the first MLS team to score four or more unanswered goals after trailing by 2-0 or more since March 31, 2018 (LA Galaxy 4, LAFC 3). It also marked the Timbers’ third comeback result of the season after overcoming a 3-0 deficit to draw 3-3 at Sporting Kansas City (April 7) and turning around a 1-0 score line to a 2-1 win at NYCFC (March 9).

Evander recorded his fifth goal and fifth assist of the season. The Brazilian midfielder has registered four goals and four assists in his last six appearances for the Timbers. Felipe Mora also scored his fifth goal of the season, tied for the team lead with Evander. The 30-year-old striker has scored in back-to-back matches for Portland after tallying a goal against Seattle (May 12).
